The Guide Promise and Guide Law

Why make a promise?

There are lots of things that makes Guides different to a youth group for example, but the most important one is that Guides all round the world make pretty much the same Promise - that includes your own Guider!

It means that all Guides are aiming for the same, wherever they live, and that they can trust each other to try their best.

What does the promise mean?

The Promise is about doing your best and that will be different for each Guide.

The Promise is made of three parts: loving your God, serving your country and keeping the Guide Law.

What is the promise?

I promise that I will do my best to love my God, to serve the Queen and my country, to help other people and to keep the Guide law.

What is the Guide law?

A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.

A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.

A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experiences.

A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides.

A Guide is polite and considerate.

A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.

Presentation to Lynsey BrewsterOur Unit is called 6th Blantyre Guide Unit and we are part of Blantyre District, South Lanarkshire County.

Around 21 girls attend each week. Our programme covers different aspects of living, and girls work in groups, called patrols, with the older guides taking responsibility as patrol leaders. Lynsey Brewster was recognised for her achievements with a Baden Powell Award on 24 October 2005, presented by Mrs Catherine Williamson.

We do different activities from a scheme called Go For It covering interests such as Survival; Healthy Eating; Fitness; Peace; Teamwork; Camping; Parties; Flights of Fancy (craft).

Confectioner BadgeFirst Aid BadgeThere are also badges which guides can do on their own or as part of a group. Badges we have worked towards include First Aid and Confectioner.

Our Guide Leader's 2004 Report to the church is available if you want to read what we were doing in 2003! Here it is: 2004 Report.

Here we are helping to serve at the church's Harvest Supper in October 2005.

And here are some of the displays we arranged with foods from France, Italy and Spain at our special guest evening to celebrate Lynsey Brewster gaining her Baden Powell Award.

Summer Camp 2002

Guides on InchcaillochEach summer we go away for a week, camping in big green tents! This year we stayed at the guide site in Croftamie, near Drymen. Photos are taken from our two day outings - one to the island of Inchcailloch, opposite Balmaha, and the other was to Helensburgh, where we swam, shopped and had tea. At camp the guides cooked their own meals and washed up in their self made kitchen sinks - quite a novelty for some. Parents and friends visited on Wednesday night and joined us in games and a campfire after the guides had taken the a tour of their sleeping quarters (big green tents!). A great time was had by all and we all came home with a lovely tan. Thanks to all the adult guiders and Vanessa, our young leader, who worked very hard. More photos to follow. Click on these images and a new window will open with a larger photo.
