The presbytery communion service this evening at The New Wellwynd Parish Church in Airdrie was very good. The church was filled by what looked to me like nearly 500 people including over 70 who were being recognised for their long service to their congregations.

At our last Kirk Session meeting we had a bit of a laugh about this, but being there tonight as the certificates were presented by the Moderator was actually quite moving. David Lunan pointed out that when you add up all the years of service of those recognised tonight it came to over 2,000 years, or about the same length of time as the Christian church itself - that really put it into perspective.

I spoke briefly with Maggie and David Lunan over coffee after the service and sure enough my suspicions about the article I linked to in the previous post were quite correct and they were pretty frustrated at the blatant mis-quoting in order to stir up publicity for the programme that was broadcast on Monday night.

David spoke about Peter being asked three times by Jesus if he loved him, and then Jesus' command to Peter to go and care for his sheep. If you want to hear what he said, here you go:
