We had a very nice surprise at the girl's piano lessons tonight when they arrived to find the composer Patrick Doyle there visiting his piano teacher of many years past! Patrick was up in Scotland having been at the BAFTA Scotland Awards Ceremony in Glasgow last night picking up an award. One of the many film scores that Patrick has composed was for the Harry Potter film, The Goblet of Fire. It is one of the girl's favourite films and so they were thrilled to meet Pat and to hear him play some of the themes from the film - they immediately were able to tell which scenes the music was from. In turn Patrick listened to the girls each play a couple of pieces and gave them some very supportive and helpful comments to improve their playing, while sharing some stories from when he was learning the piano - with the ever-helpful advice to practise, practise, practise! Thank you, Patrick, for your time and support. A very fun and unexpected evening.
