Fiona McKibbin and family

Tonight my term as Interim Moderator at Uddingston Old Parish Church came to an end with the ordination and induction of Rev Fiona McKibbin to the charge, here pictured with husband Eddie and son Adam. It was a great night with a full church, super singing, an amusing and thought-provoking sermon from Robbie Hamilton (Airdie New Wellwynd), a strong complement from presbytery and other denominations, and many laughs in the social following the service. And to top it all off an amazing spread in the hall.

Once again, as I sat at the front listening to the questions being posed to Fiona by the current moderator of presbytery, Shaw Paterson, I was reminded of my own induction to St Andrew's nearing a decade ago. The questions are challenging, daunting and exciting. How well we ministers live up to them I would hate to calculate, but they certainly provide the space for a continuous striving to do better as we serve our Lord.

My very best wishes go to Fiona and her family as she begins her ministry in Uddingston. Having got to know the folks at the Old Church over the last year, they are a great bunch of people, and it has been a pleasure and privilege to serve them during their vacancy. I look forward to hearing great things, and look forward to getting to know Fiona better as a colleague and friend in presbytery.
