What does the Kirk Session do?

Introduction

St Andrew's Leadership

A Short History

Minister

Rev. Peter Johnston

Peter grew up near London from Scottish parents and has lived in Scotland for the past ten years. He came to St Andrew's in 2001 after completing his training in Aberdeen and 'probation' in Kintore Parish Church. He is married to Carolyn with 3 girls, Sophia, Katherine and Emma, and a boy, Andrew.

The Kirk Session is made up of ordained members of the congregation: the 'elders' and the minister.

'Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.' Acts 14: 23

The main duty of the Kirk Session is general oversight of the work of the church. Final decisions are made by the Kirk Session, but much work is delegated to the Action Groups.

Each elder is given a district for which he or she has responsibility for the nurture and encouragement of those members living within the district.

Action Groups

Seven Action Groups have been developed to carry out, facilitate and encourage church members to participate in the key functions of this Church.

In addition a Coordinating Group made up of the Convenors of the Action Groups helps to balance and prioritise the work being done.
